Yoga is a light, which once lit, will never dim. The better you practice, the brighter your flame.
BKS Iyengar
I always heard about the power of writing your goals down, but it wasn’t until I read J Prince’s memoir that I became convinced. If he said it, it had to be true. So I did. I broke my goals down in to readily attainable, challenging, and difficult and wrote them down.
When I wrote down my goals, this year, the most difficult one to conceive of was completion of a 200 hr teacher training. I could visualize my financial goals, physical goals, and mental goals b/c they are all things I had realized before, but this one was different.
I met Brittany at a yoga spot not too long after I moved to La Jolla when I was getting breffus at the Mission. She was outside with the owner and they were offering Groupons. I never really was into going to yoga classes, but it was a cool deal so I bought it. I didn’t know it then, but I would be drawn to her magnetic spirit.
I started attending the community class she taught that was free and then kind of fell off it for a while, but I followed her on IG. Then, this year through the universe ordering her steps, she decided she’d lead a YTT.
When someone is grounded spiritually they exude it in their energy. It’s something that’s hard to put into words. It’s not that they are completely different from an average person, but they’ve got this sense of calm confidence and a sense of being grounded and awakened. Their energy glows and manifests. She’s a Yogini in the truest since of the word, and her energy reflects it.
So it’s like the universe lined this up, b/c I had written it down. She had plans on doing something else and then a different idea “borrowed” which lead her on the path to lead a training.
I had the 200hr teacher training as a goal b/c I believe in classical training. I think if I’m going to be talking about spirituality, I should have verifiable knowledge in multiple frameworks. I also wanted to deepen my own practice which has elicited a response from people b/c they recognize my evolution and how far my temper, mentality and sense of peace have come.
I’m glad I wrote that goal down b/c I really believe it’s set me on a path, for which I’m eternally grateful and she helped ensure that the yogi in me will stay lit.
