First Time in Belize, This Finna Be a Breeze pt. 3 (Big Fat’s Birthday)

Day 3 started out cool. I got up for my daily yoga at about 5:45, 6:00 am and had a dope practice.

It was my ole lady’s birthday and we spent the previous day ripping and running. The top thing on our list of things to do in Belize was to see some ruins so we had that on the agenda. Errol told us his favorite was Xunantunich, so we were all the way with it.

The drive to Xunantunich was about 2 hours. It’s basically driving from the east coast of Belize to western border it shares with Guatemala. Along the way, I saw my favorite bill board ever.

I still regret not getting me some of that Fi Wi Chicken

Another billboard I kept seeing was about the ICJ Referendum. When I found out what it was, I was really interested to talk to Errol about what his thoughts on it were.

So we get to Xunantunich and it’s beautiful. You have to cross a river to get there on a hand cranked ferry, which is a dope experience. You have to shut your engine off and get out of the car for “liability reasons” and then you can keep it pushing after a tip for the operator.

Xunantunich is an incredible experience. I meditated for a minute just to take in the experience. There are multiple peaks, the largest of which is “El Castillo” which you can see pictured below. They also have the famed ball courts of the Mayan game which in a couple thousand year old way remind you of stadiums and arenas of today.

So we do the walking around thing for a quick minute and check out all of the different structures then we dip and head back to the resort, where I had something cool put together for big fat’s birthday.

It was a great dinner with solid seafood. The best part of the night besides the dinner with my ole lady was the meeting the drummers that were at the resort. I had them put on a special performance for big fat at the table ,which was great, but I learned about the Garifuna, people which was incredible. We bought one of their CDs and I got to drum with them a little bit and then we called it a night.
